First team

Chavon Tiggs

Dearborn Heights

Robichaud

6-0, Sr. C

Signed with Eastern Michigan after leading the Bulldogs to their best record and first league title in school history, averaging 18 points and 12 rebounds.

Coach Jason Wilkins: “She’s very versatile on the offensive end of the floor. She can score on the low block, step out and shoot the 15-foot jumper, and is a good passer. She can lead the break and make good decisions in the open floor.”

Hailey Leidel

Woodhaven

5-11, Jr. F

Set school records for points in a season (522) and game (38), and has surpassed 1,000 career points in three years.

Coach Rodney Scharboneau: “Hailey just completed one of the best seasons a player has ever had at Woodhaven. She leads by example with her extraordinary work ethic in the classroom and on the court, and most impressive is her obvious desire to just keep getting better and better.”

Riley Blair

Dearborn Divine Child

5-11, Sr. G (captain)

Spearheaded the Falcons’ run to the quarterfinals by averaging 15.5 points, eight rebounds, 2.5 steals and two assists. Made 71% of her free throws. Committed to Ferris State.

Coach Mary Laney: “You could look at her numbers, and that’s enough to sell her as a player, but what stands out more is Riley just plays with a great deal of passion and intensity. She is a true gamer, a true competitor.”

Paige Villemure

Flat Rock

6-1, Sr. G/F

Overcoming a foot injury, Villemure helped the 21-4 Rams extend their Huron League winning streak to 47 and reach the state quarterfinals for the first time. Scored more than 1,000 points with more than 500 rebounds; has school blocks record. Signed with Wayne State.

Coach Marc Villemure: “She can go inside, she can go outside, and it’s hard to defend that. She was great around the basket, too. She basically really banged inside.”

Shara Long

Salem

5-11, Sr. F

Salem started 0-4, but then Long caught fire and the Rocks won 20 of their next 21, including a district championship. She averaged 13.3 points (making 43% of her three-point attempts) and 7.5 rebounds.

Coach Lindsay Klemmer: “She can make an impact right away; everything goes through her. Shara was the glue for the whole team; she held us together for the whole season.”
